Description
Sascha Lasserson arrived in London from Russia in 1914 as a violin virtuoso on a concert tour and remained for the next sixty years, becoming the country’s most distinguished violin teacher. A remarkable product of Leopold Auer’s legendary class in St. Petersburg, Lasserson studied with Auer longer than any other pupil eventually serving as his assistant. In Britain, he became the embodiment of Auer’s traditions and standards, passing them on to future generations.
This book, a deeply affectionate and detailed portrait compiled by his pupils, presents Lasserson not only as a teacher but also as a man, artist, mentor and lifelong guide. It offers insights into the evolution of violin teaching in both Russia and Britain, along with fascinating glimpses into his esteemed friends and contemporaries from the renowned St. Petersburg Conservatoire.
Included are examples of music annotated with Lasserson’s distinctive fingering and bowing instructions, numerous rare photographs and an exceptional image of Leopold Auer surrounded by his legendary students, many of whom became world-famous violinists.
